Braces are devices used in orthodontics to align and straighten teeth. They aim to improve dental health and to correct crooked teeth along with aid in jaw functionality. Most importantly braces drastically improve self esteem at any age!

HOW IT WORKS

During the initial proceedure, the teeth are first polished to ensure that the brackets will bond properly, after which they are air-dried. Conditioner is used on the front surfaces of the teeth to further prepare them for bonding the brackets. A medical-grade cementing agent is placed on the back of the brackets, which are then applied to the predetermined positions on the teeth. Finally, the dental arch wires are then put into place. During each following visit, the arch wires will be adjusted to fit the new aligning of the teeth.

Typically, some tightness will be felt as the teeth begin to move. This is perfectly normal!

There are certain hard and crunchy foods to try to avoid during the aligning process to help protect the placement of the brackets. These included but are not limited to, chewy foods such as hard bagels and licorice, crunchy foods such as popcorn and ice, sticky candies like gum and caramel, and nuts. These suggestions will help ensure a quick straightening process!
